The Benthic Video Surveyor 2 is a dual camera towed video system. It has the following specifications:
- two video cameras - one in a forward-looking orientation and one in a downward-looking orientation; both cameras have a Sony 1/3'' super HAD color CCD with 480 lines horizontal resolution (768 x 494 pixels) and 0.5 lux @ F 2.0
- super-bright white LEDs for illumination
- a heavily ballasted and streamlined outer faring which tows directly below the ship
- power supplied by shipboard power
- an operating depth of 150 m (currently restricted by the length of the electromechanical video cable)
- two downward-oriented scaling lasers (laser housing shown below)
- a variety of configurations for towed, dropped, or stationary monitoring
